ABOUT ME

My name is Marie Alsing

and I strive to create!

I started my creative journey when I was 5, by painting and drawing. I remember looking back at my drawings from 3rd grade, and I had painted a parrot from memory, which looked quite photorealistic. I like to bring up this story as an example of my inherited talent for observation.

I got my first phone when I was 9, creating fun skits with my friends everyday and really pushing the use of that technology at the time, fx doing stop motion. This was where my interest in creating videos and film started. Flash forward to when I was 15. I started doing motion graphics in After Effects for the next 11 years. I started on Vine with 17k followers. After Vine's shutdown (RIP) I fled to Instagram, where I've had 20k followers in my most active period! I also had a big following on Youtube doing viral video memes (hehe ;P)

During my schooltime, I aspired to get a career in film. I kept researching, creating videos, and attended a film course with Tomas Villum Jensen.

I even got invited to showcase some fan art, that I did for Stranger Things season 3, at a Netflix event!

After high school, I enrolled at Copenhagen Academy of Digital Arts for a bachelors in 3D Art and Animation, where I spent the next 3 and a half years, working on my passion, in and after school, every day. I got small jobs on productions on the side, doing VFX, for example for NVIDIA as an animator! I also worked as the school's SoMe manager and video editor.

Here I edited professional interviews of former student and teachers, did motion graphics ads, took marketing courses, attended 3D bootcamps as assistant teacher, and open house events to talk to visitors. I created several viral videos on the school's tiktok, and directed lots of attention to the school's socials. With my prior social media experience and this job, I've got a solid SoMe manager role in me as well.

I was lucky enough to start at BaconX on an internship, and ended up staying with them, for  1½ years until we were unfortunately hit by layoffs. Here, I worked as a 3D Generalist, Animator and junior compositor. I always strived to learn more, hence why I took on this many roles, on which I also fulfilled upon in my freetime, in the pursuit of learning more. It has been an absolute blast, and I'm super excited for what's to come in the future!

Below I've picked out a few case studies and projects I've worked on throughout the years, to show my thought process and passion for the work that I do, as well as delivering an insight into who I am.

At the bottom of my page, you can see my career bucketlist, filled with all my ambitions and dreams of what I want my future in this career to look like!

Fasten your seatbelt!

Having fun with 2D art

This is where it all started. All the way back to 2015 when I was 15, I started my journey in 2D animation and motion graphics. The first day learning After Effects, I probably spent 16 hours straight, looking at tutorials and practicing thanks to my hyperfocus superpowers! (my mom was a bit worried at the amount of time I spent on the computer though...understandable)

I just wanted to create
cool video art like the videos I had seen on Vine, where I later gained 17K followers before the platform shut down. I've always liked expressing myself through combining art and music. But I also liked experimenting with thinking out of the box, creating appealing but also mind bending videos, inspired by psychological horror, which is a genre I really like, because it leaves a mark on your brain. When you see art like that, it stays with you in some kind of way, and that's what I wish for my art to do. To leave my mark on the world.
I gained 45k followers across all platforms at my peak, creating the content below.

During my time at BaconX, I got to work on so many huge and awesome productions as a 3D Generalist, Animator & Compositor. Doing tasks such as sculpting, modeling, matchmove, lookdev, pre/postvis, layout, bit of rigging, procedural modeling, and pipeline organization. I kept on working on my skills and asked for more responsibility, so I ended up as the sole in house animator, as I worked hard from day one, to really show the studio my full potential, and level of skills. Later, I asked if I could take on compositing assignments in my freetime. Production was so sweet about it, as they wanted to be completely sure that it was not too much for me before accepting this request. But no, this was such an incredible experience for me, and I've really become a shark in Nuke, especially since I got to collaborate with the 2D team, which elevated my skills extremely fast!
The people at BaconX are the sweetest, and I hope, that I will be able to work with them again in the near future.

Digital Self Portrait

For my 4th semester exam at CADA, i spent 3 weeks creating myself in 3D.
I photoscanned my face for blocking in the primary shape of my face, thereafter i cleaned up the model and sculpted the secondary and tertiary details in Zbrush.

This project was so fun, as I could also incorporate some of the skills that I seem to have from nature's side, which is high attention to detail and observation skills.

I studied face cartography and the complexity of the human skin, which helped me obtain a more realistic sculpt, and texture of the skin.

For the topology i used the R3DSWrap for a faster workflow. With this program, i wrapped my mesh around a basemesh within the program, which had proper topology, this saved me a bunch of time, well-spent elsewhere.

This project was so fun, and it has given me a good understanding of the facial anatomy, and it has taught me how to think out of the box during a tight deadline.

I worked as a VFX Coordinator for Joey Moe on his movie RIPPLE

I always dreamt about working on movies, especially getting a hang of, what goes on at set. And I was lucky enough to get a job at Joey Moe's movie; RIPPLE. Here I helped the crew alongside the VFX team, making sure that the footage was set up in the best possible way for the compositors, to minimize the possibility of having to reshoot. Working with Joey was amazing, he was so kind and fun to talk with!

I displayed my art for Netflix

So back in the days I used to make fan edits for Stranger Things. And Netflix Nordic happened to host an event in Scandinavia in 2019, gathering Stranger Things art that they handpicked themselves through Instagram. I still remember checking my phone, seeing, that Netflix Nordic had written me a message asking if it was alright if they displayed my art. WOW! As I've always dreamt of getting my artistic footprint on the world, this was HUGE!
I had made an edit that they really liked over at my instagram account Shivrc, which got its own flatscreen! I will never forget this experience, and it will always be the first huge milestone in my life as an artist!

I worked as a freelance Nuke Tracking Artist on Shrouded Destiny: A Star Wars Long Tale

During working on this movie, I learned how to use Nuke. I learned how to 2D and 3D track clips, and became fairly good at it. In fact so good, that I reached Senior tracker status on the production. I was very proud of that!

SoMe ad creation

I got called in to create a little commercial for a small company called Social Vibes. It was so fun, and I also got to incorporate some 3D!

Brand Logo Animation

Yet again i got to incorporate some 2D & 3D for Aer's logo animation. Here's a few tests I did, using Maya, V-ray & After Effects.

Working as a Video Editor & SoMe Manager for CADA
Here's a gallery of my work, ranging from edited interviews, to SoMe content that I've produced and edited.

Drawing, painting and creative projects

I've loved painting and drawing since I was 5, and my granddad used to always pay me to create paintings for him to hang up on his wall. It would make me very happy, motivating me to keep creating! He really made me feel like I could do and become anything! Besides painting and drawing, I also love doing ceramics, jewelry, painting on rocks and placing them around town, hopefully making someones day as much as it made mine while making it.
